President Bhandari arrives home

Kathmandu, May 16: President Bidya Devi Bhandari arrived home Tuesday evening by completing the four-day official visit to Sri Lanka. She had left for Sri Lanka at the invitation of her Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena on May 12. During a press meet organized at the VVIP lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport upon the arrival of the President, Minister for General Administration, Keshav Kumar Budhathoki, who was one of the members of the entourage, said that President Bhandari’s visit to Sri Lanka helped strengthen the two-country relations. “We believe that Sri Lankan government paid high respect to the President’s visit held after a long gap of the visit by Nepal’s Head of the State,” said Minister Budhathoki. [caption id="attachment_25428" align="alignnone" width="380"] President Bhandari, during the visit, extended invitation to the Sri Lankan President Sirisena for Nepal visit. The Sri Lankan officials said that Sri Lankan President was likely to visit Nepal this year on the occasion of 60th years of diplomatic ties between the two countries. [/caption] It is said that Sri Lankan President Sirisena is likely to visit Nepal coming September. President Bhandari was welcomed by Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Speaker Onsari Gharti, Ministers and high-ranking government official at TIA. On the occasion, a contingent of Nepal Army accorded a 21-gun salute in honour of the President. President Bhandari attended the closing session of the UN Vesak Day as the Chief Guest marked by Sri Lanka on the occasion of the Buddha Jayanti.
