Kathmandu : Amidst the installation ceremony held on July 13, 2017 at The Annapurna Hotel, Kathmandu, The Rotary Club of Kathmandu Mid-Town has installed its new board members for the fiscal years 2017-18. The conference was attended by District Governor Rtn. Sanjay Giri as a chief guest. Immediate past president of the club former planning commission head Dr.Shanker Sharma handed over the pin of President to incoming counterpart. Other Past District Governors and district officials were also present on the occasion. The board elected Rtn. Bhairaja Pandey as the new president of the club. The newly elected president of the club, Rtn. Bhairaja Pandey said that he is committed to take the club to newer heights in membership quality, project services and rotary foundation’s works. The chief guest, District Governor, Rtn. Sanjay Giri asked all the Rotarians to promote Rotary and its mission in all mediums possible and to make the public aware about Rotary’s activities and services. The 28 years old Rotary Club of Kathmandu Mid-Town has been indulging in many social welfare projects and charity oriented programs in collaboration with international social welfare organizations. The Club has been working together with 51 Rotary Clubs from around the world to provide earthquake relief assistance to the calamity inflicted people around Nepal. They provided tarps and corrugated iron sheets immediately after the earthquake and they are following with long term reconstruction of school rooms, toilets and alternative livelihood options. The Club in collaboration with RC Oldmeldrum, Scotland provides ongoing support for improved teaching and educational standards to several schools of Irku, Kadambas and Sangachok in Sindhupalchok district, Nepal. The Club with the help of the Rotary Club of Potomac-Bethesda will be helping to prevent hearing loss among Nepalese children by providing auditory screening and surgical equipment, ear surgery for children and increasing awareness and prevention. Women’s Expanded Coffee and Vegetable Production, and Marketing for Post Disaster Livelihood is another project of the Club in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Singapore. The objective is to train women’s group and develop opportunities for improved livelihood and food security of communities in Nuwakot district by providing trainings about organic vegetable production, seed preservation and enterprise development. Rotary Club in collaboration with the RC Borken (Germany) will help to provide domestic bio gas and fertilizer for 90 households in Parsauni village, Nawalparasi. The Club is also working on the projects: An Economic Sustainability Project in collaboration with Masan-East Rotary Club (South Korea) which will bring water to more than 30 families in the village of Simapani (Dhading). It also indulges in the yearly projects of Gift of Sight Eye Camp with the help of Rotary Club of Singapore Garden City in collaboration with the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Hetauda. Over the past decade, thousands of poor people have received the ‘gift of sight’ through this generous project. The Club is bringing a new project called ‘Snakebite Prevention and Awareness Project’ which has a goal to reduce the occurrence of morbidity and mortality due to snakebite in Nepal.
