Over 300 tourists stranded in Lukla as bad weather affects flights


Solukhumbu : Over 300 tourists, mostly foreigners, have been stranded in Lukla of Solukhumbu district as the airline companies could not conduct flights from and to Tenzing Hilary Airport due to bad weather.

Imanath Adhikari, chief of the Lukla office of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, says the weather conditions have not favoured the aeroplanes for past three days.

The airport office had scheduled 20, 25 and 30 flights for Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively. But, no flights have been conducted in the past three days due to dense fog.

The Everest region is not connected to any reliable road network. Therefore, most of the visitors use the air route. People have to walk at least one day to reach find the nearest road transport option for Kathmandu and other places.

The region is one of the most popular destinations for foreign tourists visiting Nepal.
